Dr. Luis Redondo is an Associate member of the Dominican Society of Plastic Surgery, SODOCIPRE, and an associate member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, ISAPS.
In this post, he suggests that you make sure to choose a plastic surgeon that complies with local regulations and is certified:
The Dominican Republic has it all, from paradisiacal beaches, mountains, delicious gastronomy, golf, and its inexhaustible tourist offer, to the distinctive warmth and smile of Dominicans that only has a comparison with its culture of service.
One fact that many are unaware of is that currently the Dominican Republic is considered one of the most important destinations for plastic surgery, performing an estimated 40 thousand procedures with aesthetic purpose per year, assisting a considerable number of patients from the diaspora and different nationalities.
We observe with enthusiasm how everyday health and wellness services are gaining strength and especially plastic and reconstructive surgery services, the fact that has allowed Dominican medicine transcend borders and conjugate science and art to mold bodies and faces.
Our specialists, protected by the Dominican Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (SODOCIPRE), and members of the Dominican Medical Association and the Ibero-American Federation of Plastic Surgery, are governed by regulations and protocols to guarantee good results and the security of the offer, so it is of great importance that when choosing a health center and plastic surgeon verify their credentials.
The experience, cost-effectiveness of the treatments and the support of care coordinators and international departments allow us to follow up on the patient’s experience from the moment they seek information and require language and logistical support, transfer, accommodation, and recovery.
Every procedure has a possible risk, that is why it is very important to have a multidisciplinary team with transparency in information, costs and potential complications, so informed consent is part of the care protocol.
Some packages include medical treatments, tickets, transportation, recovery, insurance that covers medical complications, among other amenities.
However, one of the main differentiating factors is undoubtedly combining a safe procedure with a pleasant stay.
The synergies between clinical and surgical doctors and having a structure and equipment to perform all the necessary examinations and evaluations before, during and after a procedure are fundamental.
Clinics and recovery centers, regulatory agencies and promotion must strengthen their ties so that the Dominican Republic continues to embellish the world, but in safe hands.
