The international rankings headed by the Medical Tourism Index recognize that the Dominican Republic holds the first position in the Caribbean region as a health destination and is projected to become in the short term one of the leading powers of the continent in this segment of the tourism market.
The remarkable strengthening of this tourist specialty responds to the initiatives taken by the Dominican Association of Health Tourism (ADTS), chaired by Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, who in 2015 was recognized as a Medical Tourism Leader of the Year.
The president of the Dominican Tourism Press Association, Luis Jose Chavez, explained that the position reached by the country in this segment was one of the factors considered by the jury that selected the Luis Augusto Caminero Award, who recognize this branch as one of the new strengths of Dominican tourism.
The recognition was handed to the president of the ADTS, Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, and its vice-president Amelia Reyes Mora, at the ceremony of the first edition of the award, held at the Juan Bosch auditorium of the National Library Pedro Henriquez Ureña, with the presence of a remarkable representation of the Dominican tourism leadership.
The award was handed by the minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier García, and Dania Goris, past president of ADOMPRETUR.
In 2018 ADTS, directed by AF Comunicación Estrategica, directed by Reyes Mora, held the 4th International Health and Wellness Tourism Congress, and with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, it laid the foundation to strengthen the promotion of the destination through the tourist promotion offices (OPT) consulates, embassies, and other mechanisms.
The Dominican Association of Health Tourism is a non-profit entity that promotes the Dominican Republic as a health and wellness tourism destination.
They encourage compliance with local and international standards, seeking to generate investment, public-private partnerships and productive chains to promote the sustainable development of the niche in the country.
