The Argentine patient Candela Aylen Saccone, who is currently on her 9th day in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital Plaza de la Salud (HGPS), is stable, hydrated, afebrile, awake, oriented and co-operative.
Dr. Julio Amado Castaños Guzmán, president of the Board of Plaza de la Salud, reported that the case of this patient shows once again that in the Dominican Republic there are health services at the highest level and with guarantees for Dominican tourism offer security to our visitors.
On the other hand, Dr. Patricia del Rosario, coordinator of the Pediatric Intensive Unit, explained that Candela maintains a good respiratory pattern, stable vital signs, adequate tolerance of food and improvement of her general condition.
The HGPS is a center trained to handle cases of high complexity, recognized internationally, and is the official reference center of the accredited consular corps in the Dominican Republic.
The teenager was on vacation with her family and, when they had to return to Argentina, she fainted and was first attended by the medical staff of the hotel.
On June 22nd, she was transferred from Punta Cana to Plaza de la Salud in Santo Domingo, where she is being treated for diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious complication of type 1 diabetes in which the body produces excess acids in the blood.
